Under terms of the deal, Compaq Evo D500*s are being distributed throughout the bank's head offices and 2100 UK branches as part of an initiative to provide employees with a more sophisticated computing experience.

The Intel Pentium 4 processor machines enable more complex and power-hungry applications to be placed on the desktop and for these to run concurrently. The easily deployed and managed Compaq units will also help reduce the total cost of ownership, says the company.

Employees will also benefit from improved training resources.

Mark Whitby, director, Northern Europe, Intel, comments: "Intel Pentium 4 processor-based machines are ideally suited to today's banking environment where high productivity and system longevity are needed to achieve the greatest competitive advantage possible."
