The new service allows Internet banking customers to make one-off and regular payments to other accounts, providing they enter the sort code and account number of the recipient.

Previously customers had to provide these details over the phone to a call centre agent who would set up the payment.

Duncan Tyler, Lloyds TSB's internet banking manager, comments: "This is just one of a series of recent developments designed to save our customers both time and effort. We now have over 1.8 million customers registered for lloydstsb.com and are always looking to improve their online experience."
