The project will involve substantial work to standardise HBOS’ systems and the development of a major application to re-architecture the Bank of Scotland Internet corporate banking system onto the .NET platform, say the companies.

Using Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework, the bank will be able to offer customers, staff and partners simple integration to many back-end systems across the HBOS group of companies.

The project will be undertaken by HBOS' e-commerce development centre in Belfast. It will be supported by consultants from Microsoft’s financial services team in Edinburgh and Reading.

Ian Kerr, HBOS director of group programmes, says: “We were attracted to Microsoft .NET because it avoids the conventional rip and replace approach. Instead the .NET framework has the ability to bridge the technology gap between disparate systems, regardless of platform, protecting our earlier investment in systems, software and people.”

HBOS is now recruiting for e-commerce professionals to help work on the development of the new infrastructure.
