Bell ID wins PKI chip card contract from German savings banks

Deutscher Sparkassen Verlag (DSV), the central card service provider for Sparkassen mutual savings banks across Germany, has selected Bell ID's Web-enabled PKI smart card management solution.

Under the agreement, DSV will use the Web-enabled ANDiS card and application management system to manage its VeriSign PKI token signature cards and software certificates.

The system interfaces to VeriSign as DSV's selected PKI provider, to card personalising units and to DSV's cardholder database and SAP system. All of the Sparkassen branches, equipped with an Internet connection, will be able to connect to DSV's ANDiS management system and request software certificates and smart cards for their clients. DSV will then take care of production and distribution of the certificates and cards.

In a second project phase the same ANDiS system will be used for managing DSV's more than 40 Million Seccos payment smart cards including EMV. Also in the future, DSV will issue the German e-purse Geldkarte and optionally a VeriSign certificate through its Sparkassen branches.

Rüdiger Mock-Hecker, division manager card services of DSV comments: "The ANDiS system perfectly reflects DSV's demands to a central, secure and flexible management system. With migrating to smart cards and having the ANDiS system in place it also enables us to offer additional target group specific card and card application services."
