Ian Richardson, Barclays e-Director, says the introduction of improved content management tools is part of a drive by the bank to 'humanise' the online banking experience for its customers. “With the Vignette solution in place, we have the tools we need to deliver the right content, to the right customer, at the right time," he says.

As part of this, Barclays intendes to standardise its Web infrastructure across departments within the organisation. Vignette’s applications will be used to provide a standard content management layer on which to build the infrastructure. The technology will be used to ensure a standard look and feel across the main Barclays’ Websites, and enable Barclays’ personnel to update the sites themselves, without training in HTML or other technical languages.

The first site to go live with Vignette was Barclays’ Online Banking in December 2001.
