Radiolinja establishes wireless PKI standard

Finland-based Radiolinja has developed a wireless public key infrastructure (PKI) to enable consumers to securely pay for purchases over the Internet and log on to Web-based banking services, network shops or corporate systems via their mobile phone.

Radiolinja WPKI combines identification of buyer and merchant, data encryption during the transaction, and electronic signature technology, to enable users to log on to all PKI-based services with one single ID code/password combination.

Customers using the service will be supplied with a new Swim smart card for their mobile phone which includes two encrypted keys - one for logging on to the service and the other for the electronic signature.

Radiolinja has already signed agreements with Visa credit card institution Luottokunta, Okobank, and a commercial TV channel for roll out of the service.
