Thomson Financial automates research indexing

Thomson Financial Research has licensed ClearForest's intelligent auto-tagging platform, ClearTags 4.0, to improve the indexing and quality of its research products.

Running on Microsoft Windows 2000, ClearTags allows TFR to precisely identify and automatically tag relevant entities, facts and events buried within large textual repositories, using XML format.

Users can use the system to identify specific research reports published on Company X that focus specifically on its mergers, acquisitions or other corporate and financial activities. The system also enables customers to drill down on that content to gain more insight and an enhanced information picture.

TFR previously employed a predominantly manual process to conduct basic indexing of hundreds of thousands of research reports each year.

Kenneth Read, executive vice president, Thomson Financial, says: "ClearForest technologies will automate the indexing capabilities currently used by TFR, allowing Thomson Financial customers to search for more detailed topics and save time."

The initial ClearForest implementation will be completed in Q2 2002. Thomson Financial is currently evaluating ClearForest for use in additional business units, including First Call and NewsEdge.
