The new terminal, dubbed Jade, meets level 1 & 2 smart card certifications from EMVCo for its smart card reading facility. The terminal can be supplied with a smart card kit fitted at factory or this can be attached at a later date.

The terminal features a dip reader design which ensures the card need never leave the cardholders sight and allows the cardholder or cashier to insert the card. A large 8 line backlit display guides users step-by-step through each transaction.

Robert McLaughlin, managing director, CyberNet Emea, says: "Jade offers banks and retail merchants all the latest technology, lots of functionality - including smart card acceptance, packed into a small rugged design and at a highly competitive price. They can also now take local control of application development."

The new POS model was initially rolled out in Asia, which has seen over 200,000 orders for the Jade terminals.
