E*Trade to offer mobile phone top-ups from ATMs

E*Trade Bank is to offer customers top-up facilities for their pre-paid mobile phone accounts via automated teller machines across its ATM network.

Using Mosaic Sofware's electronic funds transfer system, Postilion, and Boston Communications Group's XML portal, the bank will provide customers with a means to purchase wireless minutes in real-time using their personal ATM debit card. At the end of the transaction, the added funds will be immediately available, and the ATM will print a receipt with the subscriber's updated wireless balance.

E*Trade will pilot the scheme during the first half of 2002, followed by nationwide deployment to its 11,000 ATMs over a twelve to eighteen month period.
