SecFinex, the online marketplace for securities finance, has appointed Instinet CEO John Oddie as chief executive officer and board member.

He replaces Peter Irons, who has served as chief executive officer since SecFinex’ inception. Irons will become vice chairman, a board position, and remain involved with the firm’s marketing and customer relationship activities.

Oddie joins SecFinex from Instinet Corporation where he was CEO of the global equities business, responsible for the US and Asia regions. He was a member of the executive committee and was previously chief technology officer.

Oddie also worked for Merrill Lynch International, Credit Suisse Financial Products, Smith New Court and Goldman Sachs.

Currently with 17 institutional lender, borrower and intermediary users, SecFinex' single day trading volumes are now averaging over 300 a day with a total of over €6 billion value traded.

Major shareholders in SecFinex include Cazenove Private Equity and trading technology vendor Mutant Technology Limited
