Windows XP is Microsoft's new operating system for home and business users built on an enhanced Windows 2000 engine, scheduled for release on 25 October, 2001.

NCR sees the move to Windows XP as a natural progression, following on from its recent migration from OS/2 to the Windows NT-based APTRA suite of self-service software. APTRA's benefits included additional functionality such as ticketing, intelligent deposit, advertising and one-to-one marketing as well as development productivity, says the company.

Jim Piggot, software and services vice president at NCR's Financial Solutions Division, says: "ATMs are still the most widely used financial channel...The graphical and digital enhancements in XP, coupled with the significantly enhanced development capability and security, meet all our requirements regarding consumer and corporate security, reliability and usability."
