Personal finance bot Cleo adds charity donation option

AI-based personal finance chatbot Cleo has introduced a one-click charity giving feature designed to appeal to young Brits who make donations on an ad hoc basis.

Since 2015 the number of Brits giving to charity monthly has fallen, while the number giving on an ad hoc basis has risen, according to NPT-UK, with mobile and online donations increasing.

Cleo's new feature is designed to appeal to its millennial-heavy userbase, which is keen to donate but is disproportionately likely to be in debt or overdrawn and so wants flexibility in how and when it gives.

The bot already helps users save a flexible amount each month, using AI to calculate how much they can afford, and putting it away for them. Now, people can donate a percentage to charity with just a click.

The feature will connect Cleo users with two independent charities, Toynbee Hall and The Money Charity, which work in financial inclusion and education.

Barney Hussey-Yeo, CEO, Cleo, says: "We are very excited to launch a feature that satisfies the desire of our users to give to charity - especially to smaller, independent organisations like The Money Charity and Toynbee Hall - and to make it effortless for them."
