Lloyds TSB upgrades cheque image processing

Lloyds TSB Bank has implemented an advanced image proof-of-deposit system from ManTech Advanced Recognition Ltd. (Marl), in a deal valued in excess of £2.5 million.

Based on the latest Seac Banche RDS 3000 counter top document reader, the system will significantly increase efficiencies in branch item processing, leading to better customer service, says the bank.

The bank initially purchased 310 software licenses and RDS 3000 devices, but this has now increased to 515.

The new system not only scans and registers the code line on a cheque, but takes a complete image of the cheque. The RDS 3000 document readers are being deployed at high volume sites so that cheques can be passed together with a credit slip from the cashier to the back office.

Ron Scurr, head of group branch systems at Lloyds TSB comments: "The introduction of the RDS 3000 to the back office area will increase our accuracy and speed in automated cheque processing. Our customers will benefit from reduced processing times."

Marl has enjoyed a longstanding supplier partnership with Lloyds TSB, and since 1995 has supplied more than 11,500 Seac Banche RD 1000 counter top document readers to branches throughout the UK.
