Dresdner Bank has installed Inktomi Traffic Server E5000 and Traffic Server Media-IXT to deliver a streaming media news and information service to its entire European employee base.
The technology is being deployed at the bank's headquarters in Frankfurt in a bid to deliver improved employee communication and overall productivity while reducing Internet bandwidth requirements and optimising network performance.
Dresdner Global IT Services, the internal service bureau at Dresdner Bank responsible for managing corporate networking and related IT service requirements will use the Inktomi technology to manage high-bandwidth and dynamic content distribution to tens of thousands of simultaneous users. The Inktomi products are designed to cache Web-based content and streaming media at the edges of the network, minimising required bandwidth, and improving the quality and performance of service to end users.
Rudolf Gesell, head of network security at the bank says Inktomi will provide the core platform for delivering new, business-efficient applications and rich multimedia content to Dresdner's global workforce.
