Card scheme China UnionPay has teamed up with over 20 local banks to launch an HCE-based contactless mobile payments service.

QuickPass lets customers with Android handsets make NFC-based payments at more than 10,000 locations, including at Carrefour, McDonald's and Watsons.

China UnionPay says that by using Host Card Emulation and token technologies, its new service offers the best combination of convenience and security.

For instore payments, users do not even need internet access or to open up an app, while online payments can be made without SMS verification.
