KFC has become the latest major retailer to strike a deal with Alipay, enabling customers in China to pay for their fried chicken with their mobile phones.
Under the deal, around 5000 KFC outlets in 900 cities across China will let people pay by scanning barcodes on their handsets.
The agreement follows similar tie-ups with Wal-Mart and Carrefour as Alibaba-unit Alipay steps up its involvement in the burgeoning online-to-offline market.
Alipay Wallet has around 190 million active users and settled $788 billion in transactions last year.
