Russian man embeds transit chip in own hand

A Russian engineer has sliced open his own hand and embedded a transit chip under the skin to speed up his daily commute.

In a fairly gruesome piece of DIY surgery, Vlad Seitzef wrapped the chip from his Troika public transport card in silicon and slipped it under the skin on the back of his hand. The wound was sewn up using plastic thread, leaving an unsightly scar.

The operation was a success, but Zeitsef says some scanners still struggle to pick up the signal from the chip.

Undeterred, he intends to repeat the procedure on his other hand to implant the chip from his plastic credit card for use at contactless terminals when shopping.

Zeitsef is not the first to try out embedded RFID chips. Last year a dutch crypto-currency fanatic implanted two NFC tags under the skin in his hands to store his digital cash.

My vet offers a dual ID/payment chip service, I now take my dog with me when i want to use contactless transit systems. There is no visible evidence of the chip insertion, as its a long-haired dog.  The chip does travel though, so i am never sure which part of the dog needs to be placed next to the NFC reader.

Genius! The last comment has made me re-think the future of payments. Have you though about training the dog to go to the local shop to buy the milk and newspaper?

It would certainly help the dog not having to worry about a wallet.

He wants an iphone 6 and a Watch before he will agree to go  to the shops for me - As we are an Android household, that discussion is not going well.... Apparently ALL the other dogs have Iphones.

I'm off to Crowdcube with a ruff ruff business plan for "Payments Unleashed". Simon Cowell is bound to back it.

Aah the thorny OS issue, it will be battery life next. My dog hates the fiddly mini USB connections .... paws not fit for purpose....

The dog, lets call him Frodo....  has asked for an Induction loop charger to be retrofitted to his dog-bed. I have highighted the concerns about long term exposure to RF emissions but he says that if you age at 7x the human rate - its not that big an issue.  His call.

No doubt Apple would figure out what and where the new adapter could plug into the dog....

Why, couldn't you take the dog up the OXO tower?

Enough about the dog, seriously.  We SHOULD be discussing whether or not the Russian guy above could take his transit chip up the OXO tower?

The bit that made me laugh is that Moscow public transport has a Troika card. Perhaps they can lend it to Greece?
