In an effort to embed itself more firmly within Silicon Valley, MasterCard is relocating its emerging merchants team to its San Carlos Center of Excellence.
Les Matthews, SVP, emerging merchants and his team are moving to the West Coast, as is Brian Gendro, VP, worldwide communications.
MasterCard says that switch will help it deepen its footprint within the tech community, as well as improve ties with local venture capital firms, digital partners, West Coast-based technology organisations and emerging merchants.
"The world of payments is rapidly evolving, led by the convergence of digital and physical environments, as well the changing needs of the always-connected consumer," says Michael Cyr, group executive, market development, MasterCard.
"It’s important for us to be on the ground with our partners who are leading the digital evolution so we can further our collaborative efforts to move to market the solutions that consumers are seeking. MasterCard is a technology company and continuing to build our presence within the key tech markets, such as Silicon Valley, is essential."
