Google opens Wallet to PayPal

Google opens Wallet to PayPal

In a surprising move, Google has opened up its Wallet to rival PayPal for app sales on the Google Play platform.

The new feature is being rolled out across 12 countries, with PayPal now available as a payment option in Google Wallet accounts. Users just need to enter their PayPal account login to make purchases.

With sales of apps and games up by more than 300% over the past year, and international sales continuing to climb, Google hopes the inclusion of a Paypal option will help fuel growth.

"Our goal is to provide users with a frictionless payment experience, and this new integration is another example of how we work with partners from across the payments industry to deliver this to the user," says the search giant.

While activated for app purchases, PayPal accounts will not be available in Google Wallet for other purchases.

Google has also expanded carrier billing to a total of 24 countries, enabling users to charge their purchases direct to their phone bill and made Google Play gift cards available to a total of 13 countries, including Japan and Germany.
