Credit union ATMs speak Chinese

The Taiwanese Canadian Toronto Credit Union is delivering services to its ATM users in Chinese.

The Toronto-based credit union is the first financial institution to use the extensive multilingual capabilities of the new AutoBranch network, which allows financial institutions to write ATM messages in any language they choose.

Unlike conventional ATM networks, the AutoBranch network allows multiple financial institutions to seamlessly support their brand and deliver customised products and services to their clients.

David Wong, chairman of the board of the Taiwanese Canadian Toronto Credit Union, says: "We have finally found a way to build our brand and serve all of our members by providing convenient ATM access in Chinese. Building our own advanced ATM network to cover our whole market area would have been very slow, and much too expensive."

When a TCU member inserts their card into an ATM connected to the AutoBranch network, dynamic branding technology will instantly transform it into a CU ATM. Members will see all the screens and transactions at any participating ATM, as though it was actually owned by the credit union. Most importantly for this credit union, the whole experience will be offered entirely in their preferred language, Chinese.
