Simone McCallum, ASB's corporate social & community strategist, says: "This is more than the total number of Facebook 'Likes' of the four other major New Zealand banks combined and is a milestone we wanted to celebrate with our Facebook community."

The bank has posted a celebration page to record the milestone and promised to match the number of likes placed on the page with a $1 donation to local charity Starship. So far the page has atrracted 28,450 likes.

ASB has adopted a gung-ho approach to social media and has delivered innovations on these platforms such as the 'Like Loan' mortgage rate ticker, Facebook Virtual Branch and the Google Street View tour inside ASB's North Wharf headquarters. ASB is also the only bank in New Zealand to have a corporate blog and offer Facebook payments over mobile devices.
