UK-based wireless Internet service provider MobileFuture has signed a three year agreement to provide a managed modem service for The Woolwich's Open Plan WAP banking service.

The Woolwich currently has 17,500 customers registered to use WAP banking which is offered as part of its multi-channel banking service Open Plan.

Andy Munro, MobileFuture's chief executive, says the deal represents a significant step for MobileFuture into the retail WAP banking sector. The company claims to offer the fastest connection available over wireless networks on the market today, enabling connection to the Internet within 5-10 seconds.

Keith Burgess, e-commerce development manager at The Woolwich, comments: "WAP banking is part of our multi-channel strategy and all these e-channels such as Internet, interactive digital TV are constantly evolving to offer customers more services at a higher speed."
