Citibank India partners Unimobile for wireless banking

Citibank India is to deploy California-based Unimobile's advanced wireless messaging platform to provide "CitiAlert" mobile banking services to its non-resident Indian (NRI) customers around the world.

Using Unimobile's Mobile Messaging Platform (MMP) and Unimobile Intelligent Network (UIN), the CitiAlert solution will enable automatic delivery of user-specified transaction alerts and confirmations to customers' mobile devices while ensuring that data remains secure.

Customers can choose to receive a variety of alerts including account balances and status of cheques issued to and from their account, among others. Fully customisable, customers can choose the specific alerts they wish to receive as well as the device they wish to receive them on. Customers will also be able to set preferences for the times at which they wish and do not wish to receive alerts.

The Unimobile MMP's intelligent alert engine offers additional capabilities for "actionable" alerts, "query-based" alerts and 2-way messaging. For example, users could in the future, respond to a credit card payment due alert, and instruct that payment be made directly from their bank account.

Rahul Malhotra, global head - NRI business, Citibank India, says: "Unimobile's messaging platform offered us a centrally hosted 24x7 global network, as well as access to multiple carriers. This will help us to offer real-time, personalised mobile services to our vast worldwide customer base."
