Banks are working to a November deadline for the first phase of the move to the new Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (Swift) standard.

Rolf Hage, vice president at Handelsbanken comments: "The ISO 15022 standard is very important to the future of the securities industry and Handelsbanken intends to be an early adopter."

He says the bank was looking for a way of accommodating the new standard without causing undue disruption to its current business or systems. "The new technology will allow us to process Swift messages from clients using different standards without manual intervention," he adds.
