Peter Hubbard, managing director of e-commerce at Lloyds TSB, says: "The addition of TV banking to our portfolio of services means our customers can bank with us when, where and how they want to, whether that’s at one of our high street branches, via the internet, over the phone, or now via TV banking."

The full service enables customers to view balances, monitor transactions, transfer funds between accounts and initiate bill payments to pre-mandated third parties. Lloyds TSB customers can access their accounts with their existing Internet banking user ID and password. Information exchange is protected by 128-bit SSL encryption.

The launch of the transactional service follows a four-month trial run during which Telewest subscribers were invited to use their television sets to view insurance and motor services, review mortgage packages with Cheltenham & Gloucester, the bank’s mortgage arm, look at loan repayments, browse holiday destination information and gain tips and advice on car and home buying.

The full banking service is currently available to the approximately 400,000 Telewest DiTV subscribers who are also Lloyds TSB customers in the UK.
