Goldfish sends statements to the wrong customers

UK credit card outfit Goldfish says a printer error has resulted in some customer statements being sent to the wrong addresses.

In a statement Barclays subsidiary Goldfish says due to a processing error at its printers, a small number of Goldfish customer statements have been issued which are incorrect.

"In these cases, the customer will have received their own front page but subsequent pages may refer to another account," says the statement.

The number of customers affected has not been disclosed, but reports state that thousands of customers have received the wrong statements.

Goldfish says it is treating the incident "very seriously" and affected customers will be receiving a correct statement within the next few days, as well as a letter of apology.

"We are taking steps to ensure that this does not happen again," says the credit card firm.

Last November Allied Irish Bank (AIB) said a computer error caused 15,000 payment advice slips - some featuring personal details including names, addresses and bank account and sort code numbers - being sent to the wrong addresses.

AIB said the technical problem led to 15,000 payment slips for deposits or withdrawals in foreign funds being issued to the wrong customers.

Meanwhile last January UK bank Hbos launched an investigation into how a customer who requested a copy of her bank statement ended up being sent the confidential details of 75,000 other account holders.

Stephanie McLaughlin had asked Hbos for one copy of her bank statement but instead received five packages containing 2500 sheets featuring other customers' names, sort codes and account details.
