Bank of Montreal subsidiary Harris Bank is to offer online banking and investment services via mobile phone to its one million retail customers. Chicago-based Harris Bank claims it will be the first US bank to roll out wireless banking and investment services to its entire customer base.

Harris Wireless, developed by 724 Solutions, offers a range of routine banking services including account statements, funds transfer, cheque requests, stock quotes and alerts, plus news, weather and horoscopes.

The system, released after a limited three month trial with 125 Harris customers, is an extension of Veev, Bank of Montreal's popular Canadian wireless banking service, launched in May of 1999. The Veev platform, also developed using 724 Solutions products, operates across multiple languages, carriers, banks and brokerages.
