Sybase and Ericsson alliance targets m-banking

Sybase plans to establish a test centre in Sweden for joint development of m-business applications powered by Sybase's iAnywhere Wireless Server targeting Ericsson Epoc-based mobile phones.

Ronny Vyncke, vice president, operations and technology, Citibank, backs the initiative: "Citibank believes that the teaming of Sybase and Ericsson, two wireless industry leaders, will provide the right infrastructure and applications to make mobile banking a reality today."

Currently, mobile applications require users to stay connected to the wireless network to access data. Sybase/Ericsson propose to provide mobile users with the ability to work either on or offline so they have "always available" access to their financial profile. For example, customers may perform transactional instructions offline for later initiation online at a more convenient time.
