Unisys has won a deal to implement its cheque processing technology at The People's Bank of China (PBOC).
Unisys says its technology will replace a legacy cheque clearing system at the Tianjin Payment Document Clearing and Settlement Centre, a subsidiary of PBOC.
The order includes the vendor's Network Document Processor (NDP) software with built-in digital signature functions, which will enable the bank to develop secured image exchange and cheque truncation capabilities.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Tianjin Centre will deploy multiple Unisys high-speed NDP1150 and tabletop Source NDP document processing systems, along with application software. The new configurations will support the bank's regional cheque processing operations in Tianjin as well as cheque transfer processing for the Beijing and Langfang operations of PBOC.
Madam Lu Fen, director of PBOC's Tianjin Centre, says: "We have been examining the clearing systems of a few domestic and overseas banks. We also have compared the offerings of a couple of leading vendors and are convinced that the NDP series and comprehensive cheque processing system from Unisys is the best appropriate solution of choice for building our next-generation capabilities in this area."
