TD Canada Trust is teaming with California-based Symantec to provide Internet banking customers with free anti-phishing technology.
Symantec says customers using TD's EasyWeb Internet banking service will be able to download its Norton Confidence Online transaction security software from the bank's Web site.
Jeff van Duynhoven, VP, electronic banking, TD Canada Trust says the new technology will complement existing banking security features to provide enhance fraud detection.
He comments: "Customers from Canadian financial institutions have reported a recent rise in online phishing scams in which phony versions of legitimate websites are e-mailed to them with the purpose of duping them into disclosing their personal information."
Symantec's Norton Confidence Online helps identify and block spoofed websites, adding a valuable layer of protection, he says.
The vendor says TD is its first Canadian client to licence the technology.
Research released by the bank in April found concerns about safety and security are preventing Canadian customers from adopting Internet banking services.
