Malaysian Electronic Payment System (Meps), the country's ATM switch operator, is rolling out a mobile top-up service across its network of cash machines.
According to local news reports, the service will cost up to RM3 million to implement. The system will enable pre-paid mobile phone users to purchase air time at ATMs.
All of Meps' 12 shareholder banks will participate in the scheme along with three non-sharing financial firms.
According to reports, mobile phone operators Celecom and DiGi have already signed up to the scheme, while negotiations with another telco, Maxis, are still in progress.
The mobile top-up service is expected to be live by October.
