HSBC is to open a new Group service centre in Malaysia in 2003, adding to its existing processing centres in Hyderabad and Bangalore in India, and in Guangzhou and Shanghai in mainland China.
Suitable sites for the new centre are currently being considered in both Cyberjaya and Technology Park Malaysia. Operations are expected to commence in the first half of 2003 with 500-700 staff initially handling routine back office data processing for HSBC Group companies overseas.
Dyfrig John, HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad's deputy chairman and chief executive officer, says: "Malaysia has an excellent high-tech telecommunications infrastructure, a strong labour market with good language skills, and cost advantages, making it an excellent choice for one of HSBC's Group service centres."
