UK banking group HBOS has contracted with London-based domain name management specialist NetNames for the protection and management of its portfolio of over 1000 registered domain names.
The bank will consolidate and safeguard its portfolio of domain names - which includes online brands Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Birmingham Midshires, Intelligent Finance, Clerical Medical and E-Sure - under NetNames' Platinum Service.
NetNames says the service will enable HBOS to guard against cyber-squatting and any infringements of its intellectual property.
Andy Hornby, chief executive, HBOS Retail, says: "Financial Service companies are targets for potential fraudsters so having our online assets safely monitored under one roof makes total sense as it is easier to identify and take action on potential infringements."
As part of the sevice, HBOS will have access to NetNames' proprietary Web-based portfolio manager system, which will allow the bank view its entire domain name portfolio in one place.
UK online bank Egg and Royal Bank of Scotland also use NetNames' online brand protection service.
