JCB adds UV sensor to Wacoal smart card

Japanese credit card issuer JCB has teamed with Asian lingerie retailer Wacoal and Taiwan's E.Sun Bank to launch a java-based payments card, designed specifically for women, that features a sensor that measures the strength of ultraviolet exposure.

Targeted at the young, female market, the Wacoal I-Cards are issued by E.Sun Bank and utilise JCB's EM application, J/Smart.

JCB says the UV sensor was included to make the card more appealing to women who are "sensitive about protecting their skin".

Osamu Hino, general manager, JCB International Taiwan, says: "The Taiwan credit card market is mature, and most people have several cards to their name, so we have to dream up something more attractive."

The card is also the first to carry Taiwan's National Credit Card Centre's chip-based loyalty programme, which allows cardholders to earn points at more than 200 Wacoal merchants across the country.
