Gemplus reports new clients in emerging EMV markets

French smart card software vendor Gemplus has signed nine new clients from emerging markets in Asia Pacific, South America and Europe to its EMV card systems.

Gemplus says the new client wins are due to its improved market performance in a five year EMV drive.

The new customers include Maybank, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank in Malaysia, Turkey's AK Bank, Komercni Banka in the Czech Republic, Russian Standard Bank, Vilniaus Bankas in Lithuania, Chile's Santander Santiago and Sociedade Interbancária de Serviços (SIBS) in Portugal.

Philippe Julien, VP of marketing at Gemplus' financial services business unit, says: "In the last five years, Gemplus has delivered more than 120 million smart banking cards to more than 600 customers in over 80 countries. This is a clear endorsement of our 'global presence, local service' strategy."
