The National Bank of Azerbaijan has contracted with TietoEnator for the supply of a payment card system, which will be deployed at a new national processing centre.

The new national card processing centre will provide services to commercial banks across the Republic of Azerbaijan.

TietoEnator's EMV-compliant software covers the complete cycle of payment card processing, including issuing, acquiring, switching and clearing. The delivery will also include a risk management system.

Commenting on the new processing centre, Elman Rustamov, chairman of the board, National Bank of Azerbaijan, says: "This is one of the most important projects in the process of forming a modern payment system in Azerbaijan."

Maris Ozolins, SVP, banking and insurance, TietoEnator, says: "Supported by the state government and the World Bank, this project has all the pre-conditions to become an accelerator of the payment card business in Azerbaijan."
