The system has been devised to combat skimming attacks where criminals attach card skimming devices and pin hole cameras to cash machines in order to copy card details and record customers' typing in PIN numbers.

Wincor Nixdorf says its anti-skimming module makes it impossible to affix devices to read card details as sensors monitor the ATM's card reader on a continuous basis and if a device is detected, the ATM shuts down immediately.
