Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), Ion Tiriac Bank, Raiffeisen Bank and AlphaBank Romania have all started implementation of the new service which uses the combined Way4CommerSafe software to deliver Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode protection to chip card users when shopping online.

In addition to the core 3-D Secure protocol, Way4CommerSafe can also support the wireless protocol for 3-D Secure, enabling the safe processing of m-commerce transactions.

The application is interfaced to Romcard's existing Way4 EMV processing system.

Marin Mitroi of RomCard, comments: "Our issuing and acquiring customers required a robust and well integrated solution for 3-D Secure services. For RomCard it was also important that our core banking systems be well integrated into the 3-D Secure services in order to leverage our existing infrastructure."

More Romanian banks are expected to sign up for the service in the near future, he adds.
