Nasdaq Dubai names Craig Hewett head, business development

Nasdaq Dubai has appointed Craig Hewett, an experienced exchange product development and sales specialist, as Head of Business Development.

Mr. Hewett brings international expertise in trading a variety of asset classes, with a particular focus on derivatives. He has joined from the Bahrain Financial Exchange (BFX), where he was Chief Business Officer from 2008. Earlier he worked for nine years for the London Metal Exchange (LME), where he launched new futures contracts as Deputy Commercial Director.

Jeff Singer, chief executive of NASDAQ Dubai, said: "Craig will promote growth and innovation across all areas of our business, including spearheading product development and bringing on new Members. His understanding of international exchanges, combined with his experience in the Middle East, will further strengthen NASDAQ Dubai's expansion as a capital markets centre of excellence."

Mr. Hewett said: "As investors seek new asset classes in the region, I am looking forward to helping NASDAQ Dubai widen its product range and investor base and maintain its focus on providing a framework with international standards. I believe the region's markets are poised for a new phase of growth that will benefit issuers and regional and international investors as well as the wider economy."

Mr. Hewett, who has joined as a Senior Vice President, will also oversee the exchange's market data and capital markets training initiatives.

At the BFX he led the exchange's commercial team and focused on Islamic as well conventional products. His role at the LME included developing strategies to extend the LME's activities to new markets, including over the counter clearing and developing the exchange's market data business.
