SEPA was, and still is, an important impetus of ISO 20022 adoption in payments in Europe. Then Target2's decision to move to ISO 20022 pushed the migration further ahead. The common thread is the EU's will to see harmonisation and integration. Adoption of ISO 20022 in Trade Finance can do with some encouragement from policy makers, to obtain a similar level of progress.
