There are many steps that can be taken to improve gender equality but it’s debatable whether this is one of them. The European Parliament has created a ‘gender neutral language’ pamphlet, designed to ban any gender specific words that may offend women ministers. Words include: Miss, Mrs, policeman, air hostess, man-made and manageress. But surely most of these simply indicate the gender of a person? I can’t see too many MEPs being offended by these words - is this a case of political correctness gone mad or is it about time we got rid of these outdated terms?
