One of the most intriguing features of the Internet is the amount of falsehoods flying around. A large proportion of emails and 'facts' sent to you or put up on sites are to put it nicely -'very economical with the truth'. I am sure this human behavioral trait of 'net lies' merits detailed study by psychologists. Part of the reason for this phenomenon must be that there is no regulation or overseeing authority to track falsehoods.
Now, here I am not talking of just spams and phishing tackles but 'facts and figures' that get circulated around with no underlying checking system. Perhaps the first priority of Web 2.0 for semantic web is a 'truth' filter that scans all information flying around the Net to certify its potential veracity.
Of course, there are sites like www.antiphishing.org, www.scambusters.org , www.truthorfiction.com who do a commendable job of fighting this menace.
I would welcome thoughts of other members on the subject.
