Great post Aden, and you are spot on that this needs to happen if banks are to really join the web. But I won't be holding my breath for it.

I've raised it before folks at levels empowered enough to make it happen and the response has been 'not on my watch'. That's not because they don't see the value, just that the perceived risk is greater.

That said, that was a few years back so maybe that will change.

In any case, as you suggest, there is no technological barrier to this happening. But I think the tools to enable it will be built initially on the customer side, with banks enabling a connection to that, rather than something the banks are central too.
