“We’ve seen a huge increase in online readers over the past two years, and more than doubled our subscriber base,” said Louis Dreyfus, chief executive officer of Le Monde. “We’ve also invested heavily in diversifying our content and growing our editorial team. This is the perfect time to engage a more global audience and bring our long-standing tradition of journalistic excellence to readers in new markets.”

Le Monde will use Stripe’s financial infrastructure to manage its global digital subscriptions through a single, frictionless payment platform. Subscribers in every market will be able to pay with their preferred local payment method and currency. Each transaction will also be protected by Stripe Radar, a machine-learning fraud detection solution fully integrated within Stripe’s platform.

“To reach our goal of one million subscribers by 2025, we need a payments partner that has ambition, accessibility, and global reach,” said Dreyfus. “With Stripe, we’re able to expand easily and quickly, simplifying subscriptions for us and our readers.”

Le Monde’s mission is to shed light on current events and to support public debate. Since 1944, it has been acclaimed for its coverage of international events, the quality of its investigations, and its critical analysis. Its partnership with Stripe will make one of the world’s most respected news sources easily available to subscribers around the globe.

“Access to trustworthy news is essential for democracy, and reliable journalism has never been more important,” said Eileen O’Mara, EMEA growth and revenue lead at Stripe. “Le Monde is one of the world’s largest and most ambitious media companies, and we’re proud to help it deliver quality reporting to millions of additional readers.”
