Revolut signs up Watershed to measure its carbon footprint

Revolut, the global super app with more than 16 million customers worldwide, today announced a significant milestone in its global sustainability efforts.

The company has signed up Watershed, the leader in building world-class climate action programs, to measure and help it reduce its global carbon footprint.

Revolut searched for a partner that could facilitate the process of gathering precise data on current emissions, which is a key point in the journey towards becoming green. The company also looked for real time monitoring and analysis of the incoming data to help it put emissions under tight control.

Revolut’s partnership with Watershed started in the summer of 2021. The scope of work covers, but is not limited to:

• Measuring the current carbon footprint

• Reporting on the carbon footprint

• Modelling future carbon footprint scenarios

• Monitoring real time data on carbon emissions

• Building and implementing a strategy to reduce carbon emissions

Having confirmed its precise carbon footprint data, Revolut’s goal is to develop a programme to manage its emissions down to the minimum achievable, in line with the Paris Agreement targets. The company aims to confirm its current carbon footprint by the end of this year. After this, Revolut will analyse which measures will be the most effective to reach its targets and goals.

Once this strategy is ready, Revolut will consider inviting multiple stakeholders, including employees, business partners, charity partners, and customers to engage with as well as join forces to drive the change towards a more green future, across Revolut’s global ecosystem.

Alan Chang, Chief Revenue Officer of Revolut, said:
“Revolut is a global super app that enables customers around the world to get more from their money. But as the world evolves and the lifestyles of people change, more and more citizens are realising that they too have a responsibility to the planet and to look after the place in which we all live.

We want to help make the shift towards a more green future a reality, which is why we have partnered with Watershed, we believe they will help us reach our sustainable goals.”

Taylor Francis, co-founder of Watershed, said:
“We are delighted to cooperate with Revolut on their global corporate climate program. We aim to accelerate the fight against climate change by building tools that modern organizations, such as Revolut, need to get to zero carbon, fast. The recent IPCC report released in August leaves no doubt: the time for talk has passed, and every organization needs to move quickly to cut emissions. We’re excited to help Revolut lead the way.”

Earlier this year Revolut joined Tech Zero, an initiative gathering British and global tech companies who have committed to driving green change and to fight the climate crisis through technology, data and science. For years Revolut has been cooperating with global and local sustainability charity partners such as WWF, Rainforest Alliance and Open Cages, helping these organisations to raise funds through Revolut’s Donations platform. To date Revolut customers have donated over £1 million to green, sustainability and climate charities.
