BOVESPA announced the migration of its IT infrastructure to a new platform jointly developed by HP, Intel and Microsoft will totally replace the mainframe environment for both BOVESPA and the Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC). This migration will enable reduction of maintenance cost, return over investment and a greater flexibility to expand the trading system, thus ensuring the evolution of a growing Brazilian Capital Market.
The HP, Intel and Microsoft platform also presents more stability in critical stress scenarios. “We have been growing approximately 50% yearly in the recent period and we expect the number of trading to grow even more”, says Luiz Gonzaga Simões, BOVESPA’s IT Director. “In this aspect, a platform allowing BOVESPA to scale out and scale up in a fast and flexible way will help keep up with market evolution”, he says.
For our main users, the Brokerage Houses, the major impact was on the interface, which became more graphical and user-friendly. It is also important to address that all the IT workflow has been changed to follow the migration of the platform, including the development, tests, documentation of all programs and the production control. The process has also involved an intensive training of 50% of BOVESPA’s employees on the IT and business departments.
The mentioned changes make possible that BOVESPA’s Technology absorbs the growth of the Brazilian Capital Market.
Considering that the trading, clearing, settlement and risk management environment supported by this IT infrastructure has to be kept with no interruption, BOVESPA counts on a full contingency plan with hardware, processes and a dedicated team in the Back-up Site with real time data replication.
The main migration started in 2004 in two phases and most of the systems have already migrated in 2005. We expect to complete this process in 2006.
