NCipher plc (LSE: NCH), a global leader in protecting critical enterprise data, today announced the nCipher KeepSecure product suite.

KeepSecure is the most complete enterprise-wide data protection suite on the market, capable of encrypting data at the database, file and application levels to help meet the world's most stringent data security regulations. These include Sarbanes-Oxley, Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, SB 1386, HIPAA, European Union Data Protection Laws and Japanese Data Protection legislation.

With sensitive data found nearly everywhere within the enterprise, KeepSecure enables organizations to encrypt data at multiple points of vulnerability within the organization through a modular approach that combines scalability with the benefits of centralized policy definition, reporting and auditing.

"Within the past year the mounting public pressure for companies to secure personal data and the corresponding increase in data protection regulation have forced organizations to re-evaluate the way this data is handled," says Jon Oltsik, Senior Analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. "Our research shows that many more are deploying encryption as a protection mechanism and the vast majority expect to take an enterprise-wide approach. These organizations are searching for a comprehensive and flexible data encryption solution that is easy to deploy and manage."

nCipher's KeepSecure suite allows organizations to avoid the implementation and management challenges normally associated with deploying encryption. The solution uses encryption and access control services delivered as a series of security adapters that have been specifically designed for integration with the most popular databases, file systems and specific business applications. KeepSecure management functions are centralized through a unified, easy-to-use management console that insulates the security team from the complexities associated with encrypting data across a variety of applications and host platforms.

The KeepSecure suite is an evolution of the nCipher database encryption solution. It includes the following suite of solutions, controlled from a central Management Console:

  • The core SecureDB solution allows security officers to encrypt specific columns (fields) within a relational database and define policies that assign specific users rights to the keys that encrypt and decrypt those fields

  • The SecureApp solution includes adapters that are specifically engineered to facilitate implementing encryption within a growing set of business-level applications including Oracle E-Business Suite and PeopleSoft. These adapters allow protection of specific fields within the application as well as enforcement of application user access to the decrypted values.

  • The SecureFS solution implements file security adapters that integrate with the operating system to encrypt and decrypt specified files and directories. The adapters identify file system requests and enforce additional access control by determining if the user and process have the rights to encrypt or decrypt the target object.

This newly enhanced offering provides the same ease-of-use, ease-of-deployment and separation of duties as SecureDB but in a more comprehensive data protection solution. KeepSecure minimizes the threat of super-user credentials and system level entitlements and optionally, the entire solution can be reinforced by hardware-protected cryptographic key management.

"As providers of security solutions to some of the world's most security-conscious organizations, we are committed to providing the most advanced and complete data protection solutions and KeepSecure is a significant step towards that goal," says Jeff Montgomery, Product Marketing Manager for Data Security at nCipher. "In the past year our customers have benefited from the ease of use and simplified deployment capabilities in our database encryption solution and now we are extending the same advantages to encrypting data at other points throughout the enterprise."
