Aberdeen Asset Management (Aberdeen) continues to consolidate and automate its global dealing operations with the recent implementation of the Charles River Investment Management System (Charles River IMS) in its Thailand office according to Charles River Development, a leading provider of financial software and consulting services to the global investment management community.

The six-week Thailand implementation of Charles River Trader, the electronic trading and order management component of Charles River IMS, is Aberdeen's third Asia-Pacific office and the eighth office globally to implement the system. The implementation integrates the Thailand dealing desk with the firm's Asia-Pacific central desk based in Singapore.

Aberdeen has been a Charles River client since 2001 and utilises Charles River IMS in its Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Glasgow, London, Singapore, Sydney, and Thailand offices for the management of equities, fixed income, and derivatives. Charles River IMS is a comprehensive front- and middle-office software suite for portfolio management and modelling (Charles River Manager), order management and electronic trading (Charles River Trader), real-time compliance monitoring (Charles River Compliance), and the centralised management of trade matching, confirmation, and settlement workflow (Charles River Post-Trade).

"From a multinational fund management standpoint, the implementation of Charles River IMS has immediately given us the flexibility to coordinate central dealing activities for regional markets across all our offices throughout Asia," said Robert Penaloza, deputy chief executive officer at Aberdeen Asset Management Company Limited based in Asia.

"As a long-standing business and technical partner, we are confident in utilising Charles River Trader as our global trading platform. The efficient Thailand implementation is a good example of how the system’s architecture provides the flexibility and scalability needed to easily expand our use of the system to new locations," said Ken Fry, group IT director of Aberdeen Asset Management in London. "The comprehensive securities coverage makes the system applicable for any office location. Today, Charles River Trader provides Aberdeen with a streamlined trading workflow across the globe, while meeting the unique needs of each regional desk."

Cameron Field, managing director of Asia-Pacific at Charles River Development added, "We welcome the eighth Aberdeen office to our client base. The fact that Aberdeen continues to roll out Charles River IMS to new regions, each with distinct needs, speaks volumes about the system's broad functionality and capabilities for customisation, but also to the depth and breadth of our global service organisation. Charles River is prepared and readily able to support both their global and local needs."
