ING Direct has introduced a new initiative to support children with disabilities by donating $1 to charity Ability Mate every time a customer pays for a purchase using its newly-launched Android Pay facility.
Ability Mate is a world-first technology platform dedicated to making life-changing assistive devices available to all who need them.
ING Direct executive director John Arnott said the bank’s customers were enthusiastic users of mobile technology, and while embracing the new form of payment, they will also be helping disadvantaged children.
“We have teamed up with Ability Mate, so that while our customers are using technology to make their lives easier, they will in turn be contributing towards an amazing technology platform that can make a huge difference in the lives of those living with disabilities or mobility issues.”
Android Pay enables Android users to seamlessly tap and pay with their phones at almost 900,000 payment terminals in shops across Australia, with more locations being added every day.
Amongst banks in Australia, ING Direct customers are the most digitally engaged with 51% making use of internet banking or mobile devices to do their banking. And almost 70 per cent of ING Direct customers who use the bank as their main financial institution use the ING Direct app to manage their money.
