Fidelity invests in new brokerage app

Fidelity Investments today launched a new brokerage app for iPhone and Android, which offers a first-of-its-kind customized Feed that delivers news and market information based on what a user owns, has on their watch list, has recently researched, or has chosen from a menu of nearly 30 investing topics.

The app’s personalized Feed enables users to keep tabs on information impacting their portfolios and helps them discover new investment opportunities. The feature was developed in response to customer feedback indicating they would also like to use the app as a discovery platform, beyond monitoring performance, transferring money and making trades.

The app is also more personalized because it enables customers to compare their portfolio performance to people with a similar investing style, using the Openfolio Social Benchmarks. This allows a more meaningful comparison vs. the traditional market indices investors have used as benchmarks.

“Whether it’s Amazon, Facebook or Netflix, today’s mobile users expect companies to know them and deliver customized, highly relevant content,” said Velia Carboni, senior vice president of mobile technologies at Fidelity. “We built Fidelity’s new mobile engine so our app is dynamic and learns a user’s behavior and adapts to serve them best. Highly personalized content can help users stay on top of their finances and generate new investing ideas on the go.”

Discover and Research New Investing Ideas

One new way to uncover investment opportunities is the Bull & Bear of the Day provided by Zacks Equity Research, which selects two stocks every trading day that are likely to outperform (Bull) or underperform (Bear) over the next six months.

To research a stock, users simply search for the ticker symbol. They are then provided with an array of information, including full quote details, charts, analyst opinions, related news, basic facts, ownership, key statistics, earnings vs. estimates, Equity Summary Score, dividends, and the option chain.

Users can also create customized alerts on symbols from the quote screen by choosing “Set Alert” and selecting a price trigger, such as: price movement, percentage change since previous close, exponential moving average, or 52-week high/low. When the price moves, users can be alerted on any or all of their channels of choice, such as within the app, e-mail, text or in the Fidelity Mobile® app for Apple Watch®.

Transact the Way You Want

The app continues to deliver all of the users’ favorite features such as bill pay, money transfer and mobile check deposits, but with a new look and feel and more streamlined navigation. In fact, the number of mobile check deposits made to Fidelity has increased 140 percent in the last three years, and now represent more than one third of all checks coming into Fidelity. Mobile trades via Fidelity’s apps have also grown exponentially in the last three years, up 160 percent1.

Upgrading to the New App

Beginning today, consumers can download the new app from the App Store and Google Play, and existing users can have the peace of mind that when they upgrade, their settings will carry over for quick access, Touch ID and watch lists.
